Common Components
There are some commonly used user interface components unique to ViewNSolve.com. They are: Popup, Collapsible Container, Number Input Field, Color Picker, Storer, and Local File Chooser.
Popup
Some buttons, such as the Options and the Links buttons, contain a Popup. A Popup can contain more buttons that can contain more Popups. A Popup that is not contained in another Popup slides vertically; otherwise it slides diagonally. To open a Popup, click on its triggering button. Before it opens, any other open Popup, except the one, if any, containing the triggering button, automatically closes first. To close a Popup, click on the button again. Or, if you want to open another Popup, just click on another button, and the other Popup will close automatically. When a Popup closes, any contained Popups close automatically, one by one starting from the innermost one.
Collapsible Container
As its name implies, a Collapsible Container is a container that can be expanded or collapsed to save space. It has a title related to its content and a small button for opening or closing the container. The button label changes to "-" when the container has expanded, and "+" when it has collapsed.
Number Input Field
A Number Input Field is used to enter a numerical value. It has a text box and buttons large enough for use on touchscreens.
You can enter a number directly into the text box and hit Enter or click somewhere else. You can also use the Decrease("-") or the Increase("+") button to enter a value by decreasing or increasing a value by a fixed amount. If you hold down the button the value changes quickly and continuously. Release the button when the value is getting close to the desired value.
When you hover the mouse over the text box it shows the unit used, such as seconds. When the mouse is over the Increase or the Decrease button the amount of increment or decrement is displayed, respectively. You cannot enter more than the number of digits allowed. If you enter a non-numerical value, it is replaced by the default value. If the entered value is less than the min value or greater than the max value, it is replaced by the min or max value respectively. If an integer is expected, any decimal point and digits after it are removed. If the number of digits after the decimal point is more than the indicated number of decimal places, the entered value is rounded to the correct number of digits. The valid range of values is indicated next to the Increase button.
Some Number Input Fields have a Reset button for setting it to the current default value.
Some have another button labeled as "Replace Default" for changing the default value. When the button is clicked, the default value is replaced with the displayed value, and remembered when you visit the site again. The button label then changes to "Restore Default". As the name implies, if the button is clicked again the original application default value is restored, and is reflected in the text box. The restored value takes effect immediately, just like when you enter a number. If you want to replace the default value again, you have to click the button to restore the application default first. Then enter the replacement value and click the button again.

Local File Chooser
A Local File Chooser enables you to select one or more image files from your local drive. It has an Open button and a filename display. If it allows you to select multiple files, there is a Help("?") button next to the display. Click the Help button to learn how to select multiple files, if you don't already. When you click the Open button, the familiar Open dialog appears. If multiselect is allowed the total number of files you have selected is displayed in the filename display. Otherwise the filename is displayed.
Color Picker
A Color Picker gives you a full range of colors to pick from.
First select from the dropdown at the top what you want to change the color for, such as the screen background or the button label. Then click on the bigger palette on the left to pick a color. The narrow palette on the right then shows a range of shades of varying lightness for the color you just picked from black to white. You can then pick a darker or lighter shade, or leave it at its initial shade in the middle. The palettes allow you to visually and quickly pick an approximate color. If you know the exact values of the color you desire, you can then fine adjust the color by adjusting its values.
To enter color values directly, first expand the Fine Adjustments Collapsible Container. You can then enter the HSL or RGB component values of the color you desire.
In addition, you can set a transparency value that affects how much the background color can pass through. The transparency value can be from 0, or totally transparent, to 1, or totally opaque. The transparency value you set is manifested by how clearly the checkerboard pattern in the background can be seen.
The Collapsible Container background and the strip below the dropdown at the top both display the color, including its transparency, that you have picked. If you use a mouse, the colors are also marked on the palettes with tiny circles.
The colors you picked are remembered through the tiny squares below the palettes. Click on a square to retrieve the color. As more colors are picked, more squares are added. They grow from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. When there are more colors than can be displayed, older colors get removed.
After entering a value in a text box hit Enter or click somewhere else. The valid range of values for each color component displays when you mouse over a text box. The default value is 0 for all except for the transparency, which is 1.
At the bottom, there is a Reset button for changing the color you picked back to the current default.
There is another button labeled as "Replace Default" for changing the default color. When the button is clicked, the default color for the selected item is replaced with the currently picked color, and remembered when you visit the site again. The button label then changes to "Restore Default". As the name implies, if the button is clicked again the original application default color is restored. The restored color takes effect immediately, just like when you pick a color. If you want to replace the default color again, you have to click the button to restore the application default first. Then pick a replacement color or retrieve the desired color from the color squares and click the button again.

Storer
A Storer enables you to save image URLs(image addresses), or unsolved jigsaw puzzles. It has a pair of buttons. One is labeled as "Save". The other is labeled as "Open" for Image Viewer, and "Resume" for Jigsaw Puzzle Game. Both buttons contain a Popup. The Save Popup has a text box with an OK button. Below it there is a Manage button with its own Popup with buttons for renaming and deleting saved items. The Open or Resume Popup contains a list of saved items, if any, in chronological order, each with its own Open button. If there are no saved items, a pertinent message displays. The process of saving, opening, renaming, or deleting an item is very similar to that for a file.
To save image URLs or an unsolved jigsaw puzzle, first click on the Save button and enter a name, up to 20 characters, and click OK. If there is no error the Popup closes automatically. If there is any error, such as the text box is blank or the name has been used, you will be alerted. Follow the instruction, if any, and correct the error.
You can rename saved items or delete them. Click on the Manage button and the Popup opens showing the same list of saved items as that in the Open or Resume Popup, each with its own Rename and Delete("X") buttons. If there are no saved items, a pertinent message displays.
To change a name, click on the Rename button next to the saved item. You are then prompted to enter a name, up to 20 characters. Enter a name and click OK. If there is no error the dialog closes automatically. If the name has been used or the text box is blank, you will be alerted. Click Cancel if you do not want to change the name, and the dialog closes.
To delete an item, click on the Delete("X") button next to the saved item. You are then prompted for confirmation. Click Yes if you really want to delete the item. Otherwise click No. The dialog closes automatically after you click a button.
To open a saved item, click on the Open or Resume button, and then the Open button next to the saved item. Then follow the instruction, if any.

Image Viewer
Image Viewer is the home of ViewNSolve.com. With Image Viewer, you can view images conveniently without having to open many browser tabs. It takes up the entire browser window. You can maximize the viewing area by going full screen. To go full screen, press the F11 key on your keyboard. To exit full screen, press F11 again or the Escape key.
Image Viewer has buttons for displaying images automatically, for pausing, and for going to the first, the previous, the next, or the last image. You can also fast forward or reverse. You can select images to view from your local drive or from the Web. Then sit back, relax, and view images as they are automatically displayed for an adjustable amount of time one after another in a continuous loop.
The control panel spans across the bottom of the screen. It contains the user interface that consists of the Web button, the New Pics button, the Options button, the control buttons, the time display, the image number and name display, and the jigsaw puzzle button. You can hide the control panel by clicking it in an empty area. To show it again, click in an empty area near the bottom of the screen. When you hide the control panel, any open Popup closes automatically.
The user interface and the convenient features and useful options are described under separate headings below.
Web Button
The Web button is recognizable by its globe icon. It contains a Popup. The Web Popup contains a large URL text box, a Links button, a Storer, and an OK button.
URL Text Box
When you want to view images from the Web, enter their URLs, such as http://www.example.com/picname.jpg, one URL per line, into the large text box and click OK. If a URL is too long to fit in one line, let it wrap by itself, without you hitting Enter to start a new line. The Web image source radio button in the New Pics Popup is then automatically selected.
When OK is clicked the Web Popup closes automatically and the loading process begins. The image number and name display shows you the progress. While the loading is in progress clicking any buttons or anywhere in the control panel doesn't trigger any action. When the image loading finishes, the first available image is displayed. If there are any images that failed to load the Web Popup opens. The failed images are marked with asterisks. An error message in red displays below the text box suggesting possible causes of errors. Correct any errors and click OK to retry. You don't have to remove the asterisks; they will be removed automatically.
Shortcut for Numbered Images
If all the image filenames contain numbers in sequential order and the total number of images is less than 1000, then you don't have to enter all the URLs. You only need to enter the first and the last URL. To be able to use this shortcut, a filename must contain only one nonzero number, which can have many digits, and without any leading zeros. The number can be in any fixed position in the filename. Other than the number, the rest of the URL must be the same for all the images. Some examples of qualified filenames are: 1.jpg to 20.jpg, 1abc.jpg to 20abc.jpg, abc1.jpg to abc20.jpg, or abc1def.jpg to abc20def.jpg. When you click OK the URLs in between are automatically added. The order is important. The first number must be smaller than the second one. If the order is reversed or the total number of URLs exceeds 1000, URLs in between will not be added; only the two images entered will be loaded.
You can also enter just a starting URL. This is useful if you want to view a large number of sequentially numbered images. When only one URL is entered, the First and the Last control buttons are disabled; they appear gray. If the next image is not available, attempts are made to load the next available images. After five consecutive trials and there is still no new image loaded, a pertinent message displays below the URL text box and in the image number and name display. To continue to try, click on the Next button.
Linking to Image Viewer
After the image loading finishes, links containing the URLs are automatically generated. Use them to easily link to ViewNSolve.com to make use of Image Viewer and Jigsaw Puzzle Game to share images and fun. Click on the Links button below the URL text box to access the links. A Popup then appears showing four Collapsible Containers storing different types of links. There is one link for sharing images. There is another link just for linking to ViewNSolve.com. The links for email are for inclusion in email.
If you want to use a link to share images, make sure all the images can be loaded by correcting any loading errors. Then copy and paste the links you need into Web pages or email.
Saving/Retrieving Image URLs
You can save images for future viewing by saving their URLs. A Storer with its Save and Open buttons is located below the Links button. To save URLs, simply click the Save button, and a Popup appears for you to enter a name. To avoid clutter, use the same name if you have added or removed some URLs to or from existing saved URLs.
To view saved images, click on the Open button and a Popup appears showing a list of saved items. Click the Open button next to the saved item you want to open. The saved URLs are retrieved and listed in the URL text box. Then the Popup closes automatically. You can add any new URLs. Then click OK and the image loading process begins.

New Pics Button
To use Image Viewer, first select images you want to view. Click on the New Pics button. Its icon has three rectangles in front of one another and a plus sign in the corner. The New Pics Popup then opens. At the top there is a row of radio buttons labeled as "Local", "Web", and "Default" for selecting the image source. Another row of radio buttons lets you select the scale at which to display images. When you make a selection you can either click on the radio button or its label.
Selecting Local Images
If the browser fully supports accessing image files from your local drive, then the Local radio button is visible. Otherwise you only see the Web and the Default radio buttons. When you select Local, a Local File Chooser appears below it. If there are previously loaded local images already and you don't want to load new ones, after optionally changing the image scale click OK. The New Pics Popup closes automatically and the last viewed image displays. If you want to select new images, click on the Open button and the familiar Open dialog appears. You can select one or more files. To select multiple files, hold down Ctrl and click on the image files you want to view. To select a range of files that are all next to each other, click on the first file then hold down Shift and click on the last file. You can also select all the files by using the dialog menu, such as the Organize menu. Once files are selected click on the Open button. The multiselect instruction is also accessible by clicking the Help button of the Local File Chooser. The filename display shows the number of files chosen, or the filename if only one file is chosen. After optionally changing the image scale, click OK. The New Pics Popup closes automatically and the loading process begins. The image number and name display shows the progress. While image loading is in progress, clicking any buttons or anywhere in the control panel doesn't trigger any action.
Selecting Web Images
To select Web images, click on Web. When you select Web for the first time and OK is clicked, the Web Popup opens for you to enter image URLs. Otherwise previously viewed images are used. You can add or remove URLs to or from the exiting ones. After optionally changing the image scale, click OK. The New Pics Popup closes automatically. If the images are not newly loaded, the last viewed image displays.
Selecting Default Image
When you select Default, a dropdown appears below it that contains the initial welcome image from this site. Click OK and the New Pics Popup closes automatically and the default image displays.
Image Scale
By default, images are shrunk if necessary to fit in the available display area. You can view images at the scale you want, from 1 down to 0.1. To change the image scale, click the Other radio button. A Number Input Field then opens up for you to enter a scale. When you select Shrink to Fit, the Number Input Field closes. After optionally changing the image source, click OK. The New Pics Popup closes automatically. If the image source is not changed, the currently displayed image is displayed again with the scale you set.
When an image is not displayed at full scale, the mouse icon changes to "+", indicating that the image can be zoomed in to full scale by clicking on the image. After zooming in the mouse icon changes to "-", indicating that the image can be zoomed back out by clicking on the image. When transitioning to the next image, the zoom icon disappears.
Options Button
There are useful options available for Image Viewer. You can change the display time, the transition types, font sizes, and colors. You can also save images.
Display Time
The default display time for each image is two seconds. A Number Input Field is used to enter a display time. You can change the display time from zero to sixty seconds inclusive. To display animation images rapidly, set the display time from 0 to 0.042 seconds inclusive, and select No Transition.
Transition
You can select how you want images to change from one image to another: abruptly or gradually. To change images abruptly so that one image changes to another instantly, which is suitable for playing animations, click the No Transition checkbox or its label so that a check mark appears. To change images gradually, uncheck the checkbox and the next image transitions gradually into view with blur effect.
Saving Images
When an image is displayed you can save it to your local drive by clicking on the Save Image button. A Popup then appears showing the image thumbnail. If the Popup is already open, close it and then open it; the correct thumbnail is displayed. Right click on the thumbnail and a menu appears. Select the menu item labeled "Save image as...", or similar. The familiar Save dialog then appears. Enter a filename and click OK. If the image is from your local drive and the Other scale is selected, it is shrunk by the scale you entered.
Changing Font Sizes
You can resize the control panel by changing font sizes. Click on the Zoom button and a Number Input Field pops up. Enter a font size in pixels. The control panel size changes immediately. To make the change permanent, click the Replace Default button to replace the current default with the new font size and save it.
Changing Colors
You can change the color of the screen background, the control panel background, the button background, and the button label. First click the Color button to show the Color Picker. At the top of the Color Picker select an item from the dropdown and pick a color. The selected item color changes immediately. To make the change permanent, click the Replace Default button to replace the current default with the selected color and save it.
Control Buttons
There are five control buttons. They are, from left to right: First, Previous, Play/Pause, Next, and Last. The middle button is for playing/pausing Image Viewer. Its icon changes to a play icon when you click to pause and vice versa. The rest are for navigating to the first, the previous, the next, and the last image, respectively. You can fast forward or reverse by holding down the Next or the Previous button, respectively. Release the button when getting close to the image you want to view.
Time Display
The time display shows a time pie to indicate how long an image has been displayed or the remaining transition time. The time pie grows clockwise when an image is displayed, and shrinks counterclockwise when an image is in transition. Whenever Image Viewer is paused, the time pie stays the same. When the display time is up and there is only one image to show, the time pie becomes a full circle. The time pie has the same color as the button background color. You can hide the display by clicking on it. To show it again, click in the same area.
Image Number and Name Display
When an image is displayed, its number in relation to the total number of images and its filename are displayed. Images that failed to load are included in the total but are skipped.
Jigsaw Puzzle Button
When an image is displayed or in transition it can be turned into a jigsaw puzzle by clicking on the Jigsaw Puzzle button. The button has the familiar classic piece icon. When clicked the control panel closes and Jigsaw Puzzle Game screen fades into view. Once the jigsaw puzzle is created it slides in and the control tray slides out. You can then click on the Shuffle button to start playing.
Jigsaw Puzzle Game
Jigsaw Puzzle Game is accessible by clicking on the Jigsaw Puzzle button of Image Viewer. It can also be linked to directly from other sites or emails. Jigsaw Puzzle Game takes up the entire browser window. You can maximize the play area by going full screen. To go full screen, press the F11 key on your keyboard. To exit full screen, press F11 again or the Escape key.
Jigsaw Puzzle Game is capable of turning any image you supply into a jigsaw puzzle so that you can play unlimited jigsaw puzzles. You can select images to play with from your local drive or from the Web. Jigsaw Puzzle Game generates realistic and intuitively rotatable pieces quickly. You can change the challenge levels by changing piece sizes or by turning on Guidance that shows a faded image with piece outlines in the background, or both. You don't have to complete a jigsaw puzzle in one sitting. You can save an unsolved jigsaw puzzle that has many pieces and come back to it later.
Once the jigsaw puzzle is made, it slides into view. It is centered if it is small enough. Otherwise it is positioned in the top left corner. The jigsaw puzzle is initially displayed as completed with all the pieces joined together. To start playing, first click on the Shuffle button. The shuffle animation then begins, as indicated by the "Animating..." message in the lower left corner. All the pieces move to the center of the screen, shuffle, and spread out. As soon as the animation ends the message disappears, and you can start putting pieces together. To join two pieces together, first select a piece by pressing the left mouse button on it or by touching it on a touchscreen. When a piece is selected it is shown with a shadow on top of other pieces. The shadow disappears as soon as you start dragging the piece. Drag the piece close to a matching piece and release it. It snaps to the other piece automatically and the two pieces are joined to form a bigger piece. The bigger piece can then be selected and dragged as if it were a single piece to join with other single or bigger piece. Continue to join pieces together until they become one big whole piece. It then vibrates to let you know you have solved the puzzle.
The control tray is initially docked to the bottom right corner of the screen. To open the tray, click on the long and narrow black button. The tray slides out showing six main iconed buttons: New Jigsaw Puzzle button, Options button, Shuffle button, Solve button, Pics button, and More button. To close the tray, click on the tray button again or click in any empty area of the tray. You can dock the control tray to the bottom left corner if you prefer. To do that, click the Options button and the Options Popup appears. Then click on the Dock button, the one with a left arrow icon, and the control tray docks to the bottom left corner, and the icon changes to a right arrow. When you hide the control tray, any open Popup closes automatically.
The user interface and the convenient features and useful options are described under separate headings below.
Moving Multiple Pieces Together
You can move multiple pieces from one area to another quickly by dragging them together as a group. First hold down the Shift key, then select the pieces you want to move. The selected pieces are shown with a shadow. To unselect a piece, click on the piece again and its shadow disappears. To drag the selected group, while the Shift key is still held down press the left mouse button or your finger, if using a touchscreen, in an empty area near the group. Then release the Shift key and start dragging. The pieces move together as you drag across the screen. After you have released the mouse and want to drag the group again, hold down the Shift key first, then press in an empty area, release the Shift key, and drag. If you don't hold down the Shift key first and press in an empty area, the group will be lost and you will have to reselect them.
Showing Selected Piece at Bottom
As you put more pieces together, a piece becomes larger and larger. As it grows it covers other pieces. To easily and quickly reveal all hidden pieces, hold down the Alt key and press on the big piece. The selected piece is shown at the bottom and all previously hidden pieces become visible. This only works if Guidance is not turned on.
Autoscrolling
When you need to move a piece or multiple pieces past the edge, you don't have to manually scroll first to show more space. Just keep dragging past the edge and stop on the border. The screen will scroll continuously, and the piece or group will move at the same speed. The speed of autoscrolling depends on how far you stop from the edge, the farther the faster. You can speed up scrolling by dragging farther from the edge. To stop scrolling, release the mouse or the finger on a touchscreen. That is the main reason for having border around the screen.
Status Display
The status display is located at the bottom left corner of the screen. Whenever a process that takes a while to finish, such as an animation or the generation of new pieces, a message displays to inform you of the status. It displays "Animating..." when an animation is going on; otherwise it displays "Processing...". You cannot work the puzzle or use the user interface until the message goes away.
New Jigsaw Puzzle Button
Besides using Image Viewer to browse for an image to play with, you can also use the user interface Jigsaw Puzzle Game provides to select an image, and optionally change its scale, the piece width, or the piece shape. First click on the New Jigsaw Puzzle button. Its icon has a classic piece and a plus sign in the corner. A Popup then opens. At the top there is a row of radio buttons labeled as "Local", "Web", and "Default" for selecting the image source. If the browser doesn't fully support accessing image data, then the Local option is invisible and you cannot select local images. You select the image source by clicking on either the radio button or its label. When you select Local a Local File Chooser appears below it. Click on the Open button and the familiar Open dialog appears. When you select Web a text box appears below it for you to enter the image URL, such as http://www.example.com/picname.jpg. When Default is selected a dropdown appears for you to select an image from this site.
After selecting an image, you can select other options such as the image scale, the piece width, and the piece shape. Then click OK.
Once OK is clicked, the old jigsaw puzzle pieces are cleared away in a unique animation. After the new jigsaw puzzle is created it slides in. If there is any error, such as no local image was selected or the image URL was invalid, a default image is used instead. You can change the image scale, the piece width, or the piece shape after the jigsaw puzzle is created.
Image Scale
The default image scale is 1. The image scale option is useful when you have a large image that slows down or freezes the browser. You can shrink it to improve performance. Another use of the option is when you prefer not to scroll. You can shrink the image small enough so that the scrollbars disappear and it is centered.
Piece Width
The piece width option is labeled as "Gross Width" to imply the actual width and height may not be the same as the entered value. If the entered value does not result in the width of all the pieces to be equal or close, then the value is adjusted up or down. The actual piece height is determined likewise. If the generated pieces do not look square enough, you can adjust the gross width or the image scale until they look ideal. The default value is 100 pixels unless the image is too small. To make sure a small image has at least several pieces, a value less than the default is used. If the image width and height are both smaller than the gross width entered, then the jigsaw puzzle has only one piece, the image itself. The total number of pieces generated is displayed when you mouse over the piece width text box.
Piece Shape
The default piece shape is Classic. You can select Rectangle from the dropdown for rectangular piece shape.
Options Button
Jigsaw Puzzle Game provides useful options. Click on the Options button that has a gear icon to open its Popup. The options allow you to select the shuffle type, turn on/off Guidance, enable/disable rotation, make pieces look textured or flat, save images, change colors and sizes, and save and resume unsolved jigsaw puzzles.
Shuffle Type
You can select how pieces are spread out, All Over or Around, when the Shuffle button is clicked to shuffle a jigsaw puzzle. The All Over type causes pieces to spread out all over the screen randomly. If the image is small enough to be centered, all the pieces scatter around the center without taking up the entire screen. With the Around type, pieces scatter around where the image is initially positioned, or around the image if Guidance is on. To select a Shuffle Type option, click on the radio button or its label.
Guidance
Guidance is turned on by clicking the Guidance checkbox or its label so that a check mark appears. As its name implies, the image with piece outlines is shown in the background. You can turn on Guidance just to use the image as a hint, or to complete a jigsaw puzzle differently. With Guidance, you match a piece to its own outline in the image, rather than join it with another piece, which will not work. To complete a jigsaw puzzle, drag each piece close to its outline and release it. If the piece is not rotated, it snaps into its own shape perfectly and cannot be moved again. It is shown below any overlapping pieces so as not to cover them. You can turn on or off Guidance anytime you want. When you turn it off, by unchecking the Guidance checkbox, any pieces that were joined together remain joined. When you turn Guidance on, if there were already bigger pieces with multiple joined single pieces, drag them as if they were single pieces. As soon as you complete the jigsaw puzzle it vibrates, but you cannot drag it like you normally can.
When switching to Guidance, the shuffle type is automatically set to Around so that the pieces scatter around the image when the Shuffle button is clicked. When switching out of Guidance, the shuffle type is automatically changed back to its previous setting. You can change the color and the transparency of the outlines with the Color Picker. You can remove the outlines by setting the transparency to 0.
Rotation
By default you cannot rotate pieces. You can make them rotatable by clicking the Rotatable checkbox or its label so that a check mark appears. To rotate a piece, intuitively drag it while holding down the Ctrl key. When it is close to its correct orientation, simply release the mouse or the finger if using a touchscreen and it will automatically snap to its unrotated position. When shuffling all the pieces are randomly rotated. When you drag a piece close to a matching piece, it will only snap to the other piece if it is unrotated. When the checkbox is unchecked, all the pieces become unrotated. Only single pieces can be rotated.
Texture
By default pieces are textured to give them a realistic 3D feel, if the image source is Local or Default. Web images cannot be textured directly, due to security restriction imposed by the browser. Whenever a new Web image is loaded, the Textured checkbox is automatically unchecked. The generated pieces appear flat. If the browser doesn't fully support accessing image data, then the Textured checkbox is also disabled. However, if the checkbox is not disabled, you can still have textured pieces. First click on the Textured checkbox or its label so that a check mark appears. A Popup then appears. Follow the instruction at the top and go through the two-step process. The first step is the same as saving an image. After you have saved the image, go to step two and open the saved image. If the opened image has the same dimensions as indicated, the OK button is enabled. Otherwise an error message is displayed. Click OK and the Popup closes automatically. All the pieces are textured after a while or instantly depending on the image size. When you uncheck the checkbox all the pieces appear flat again.
Saving Images
You can save jigsaw puzzle images to your local drive. To save an image, click on the Save Image button. A Popup appears showing the image thumbnail. Right click on the thumbnail and a menu appears. Select the menu item labeled "Save image as...", or similar. The familiar Save dialog then appears. Enter a filename and click OK. Images are saved at full scale regardless of the image scale you set. To shrink and save local images, use the Save Image option for Image Viewer.
Changing Colors
You can change the color of the background, the border, the piece shadow, Guidance outlines, the button background, and the button label. First click the Color button to show the Color Picker. At the top of the Color Picker select an item from the dropdown and pick a color. The selected item color changes immediately. To make the change permanent, click the Replace Default button to replace the current default with the selected color and save it.
Changing Font Sizes
You can resize the control tray by changing font sizes. Click on the Zoom button and a Popup appears showing a dropdown and a Number Input Field. Select Font Size from the dropdown and its Number Input Field appears. Enter a font size in pixels. The control tray size changes immediately. To make the change permanent, click the Replace Default button to replace the current default with the new font size and save it.
Changing Border Widths
You can change the border width. Click on the Zoom button and a Popup appears showing a dropdown and a Number Input Field. Select Border Width from the dropdown and its Number Input Field appears. Enter a width in pixels. The border width changes immediately. To make the change permanent, click the Replace Default button to replace the current default with the new border width and save it.
Saving/Resuming Jigsaw Puzzles
You can save a jigsaw puzzle and resume working it later. A Storer with its Save and Resume buttons is located at the bottom of the Options Popup. When a jigsaw puzzle is unshuffled or when it is solved, you cannot save it, as indicated by the message at the top of the Save Popup, and by the cleared and disabled text box and the grayed out OK button.
If the browser allows you to open a local image file, when the image source is Web and the Textured option has never been selected, upon clicking OK a dialog appears showing the same content as the Textured option Popup. Go through the same two-step process as that when you check the Textured checkbox. After saving and you want the pieces textured, just check the Textured checkbox; the Popup will not appear since the image data is already available. If you have selected the Textured option before saving, the dialog will not appear when you click OK, since the image is already saved. If the image source is Default, the same dialog also appears when OK is clicked.
When a jigsaw puzzle is saved the name text box is disabled so that the same name is used when OK is clicked again. If you continue to put pieces together after clicking OK, click OK again to save the latest changes. The Save Popup closes automatically when you click OK, if there is no error.
To resume working a saved jigsaw puzzle, click on the Resume button and a Popup appears showing a list of saved items. Click the Open button next to the saved item you want to open. If the browser allows you to open a local image file, then a dialog appears for you to retrieve the saved image. Follow the instructions to open the saved image file and click OK. Then the Resume Popup closes automatically, the existing jigsaw puzzle is cleared away and the saved jigsaw puzzle fades into view. When a saved jigsaw puzzle is solved it is removed from storage and from the list.

Shuffle Button
The Shuffle Button has an icon with two separated pieces. When clicked the one-of-a-kind shuffle animation begins. You see all the pieces come together in the center of the screen, randomly rotate if Rotatable is checked, shuffle, and spread out all over the screen or around the image, as determined by the shuffle type selected.
Solve Button
The Solve Button has an icon with two joined pieces. When clicked all the pieces come together in their initial positions to join with each other, and the whole piece vibrates as a jigsaw puzzle does when it is solved. If Rotation is enabled all the pieces become unrotated first before moving across the screen.
Pics Button
The Pics button has an icon with three rectangles in front of one another. Click it to access Image Viewer. Once clicked the control tray closes, the pieces are cleared away, and Image Viewer control panel slides up. The next image then fades into view.
More Button
The More button has an icon with three big dots. It contains a Popup that provides links to the Link to Us page, the Overview page, and the Comments page.
The "Link to Us" page generates links to share jigsaw puzzles and to ViewNSolve.com. For more information, click on the Help("?") button near the bottom of the page.
